Monica Fischer is the owner of Creaticca Studio and co-author of Mad about Metal. We caught up with her to talk about metal craft, pewter’s less expensive sister craft!
Favourite craft: Working with creative craft metal. I will forever be amazed by the way a blank piece of metal sheet can be transformed into a beautiful colourful textured piece of art.
Best craft tool ever made: The Cuttlebug Embossing Machine.
Favourite shop for craft goodies: Scrap-a-Doodles in Pretoria.
Favourite place to craft: At my studio, Creaticca Studio in Melkbosstrand.
Favourite time to craft: I love to craft over weekends and during the day when I’m not busy sending my products to crafters all over South Africa.
When did you start crafting with metal? I started working with metal five years ago after attending a pewter class.
What makes this craft different from pewter? Craft metal sheets can be hand and machine embossed just like pewter. They are user friendly, lead free and so much more versatile and affordable than pewter.
Craft metal can also be used with texture plates, embossing folders, stencils, die cuts and pewter tools. Unlike pewter there are no harsh chemicals used when decorating and ageing the metal.
Added to this, creative craft metals are available in many different colours!
What is your favourite project in ‘Mad about Metal’? My favourite project is the Zoo metalling project. I love the look of bright metal natural colours without the ageing process.
Where can crafters buy the metal sheets used in the book?
My business Creaticca Studio is the stockist of the metal, texture plates and embossing accessories used in this book.
